What Is PlayOn?

I recently installed PlayOn.tv on my Windows 10 Pro laptop and love it.  It allows you to watch live TV on your laptop in HD.   Best of all, it's FREE!

One of the coolest features is that it can also function as a DVR on your PC (you can even record most Netflix movies in standard .mp4 format for playback on most devices).  So if you know you're going to be flying and want to watch a game or movie you missed, now you can ... even in HD!

PlayOn also enables users to access and organize many online video streaming sites, such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, Comedy Central, ESPN, MLB, and a lot more (over 100 in total).  It has a ton of features!

Best of all, the streaming version is free and the DVR option is just a one-time charge of $39.99 (lifetime).  Check out this great Windows Plug-in here!  As always, The GoTo Tech Guru is here to help with installation and configuration.

Computer peripheral cables are hard enough to keep track of without people throwing around words like “Thunderbolt” and “USB Type C.”  Thunderbolt may be particularly confusing, since this connection technology has gone through several different phases, and is making the jump from Apple to laptops and PCs in general.

But knowing the difference between these different ports is important, especially when you’re thinking about which computer is right for you. These days, don’t be surprised if you look at a new laptop and see nothing but “USB-C” and “Thunderbolt.”

So, what exactly is it? Let’s take a look.

Not all USB-C cables are the same!

The latest generation and type of USB cable, known as USB-C, is much faster than all prior versions, such as USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0.  It does away with micro-USB cables, mini-USB cables and a lot of confusion that goes with them because it's one-size fits all.  USB-C can also functions as a power cable.  But if you don't buy the correct type of USB-C cable, your connected device may be under powered, or worse, over powered.  Read here for all the in's and out's.  As always, The GoTo Tech Guru is here to help!

The company asked the same questions of Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Google’s Assistant.
